Fatih Dönmez was born in Bilecik in 1965. He completed his primary, secondary, and high school education in Istanbul. In 1987, he graduated from Yıldız Technical University’s Electrical Engineering Department. In 2005, he successfully completed the e-MBA certificate program. He started his professional life as an R&D engineer at NETAŞ. During his professional life, he held several executive positions in energy and telecom firms.
In 1994, he worked at Istanbul Gas Distribution Industry and Trade Incorporated Company (IGDAS), an affiliate of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), as Engineering and Project Manager, Deputy Director-General, and Board Member.
Having been appointed as General Coordinator of IMM Affiliates in 2002, he also served as CEO or Board Member at various IMM affiliates and acted as a founding Board Member of the Union of Turkish Electricity Industry (TESAB).
Appointed as Board Member of Turkey’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) on January 4, 2008, Dönmez was elected as Presidium Member of the Energy Regulators Regional Association (ERRA), of which the EMRA is a member, by representatives of the member states in 2008 and 2012. He oversaw the preparation of the ERRA strategy paper and took part in supply security committees.
He has written various reports, articles, and commentaries on a wide variety of subjects including supply security, natural gas forecasts, R&D in the energy sector, strategic planning, performance management, feasibility studies, organizational development, and the adaptation of companies to EU rules and regulations.
Appointed as Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources on December 24, 2015, Dönmez also served as Board Chair at Turkey’s Energy Exchange Istanbul (EXIST) and Acting Board Chair at Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline Project (TANAP).
Dönmez was appointed as Minister of Energy and Natural Resources pursuant to Presidential Decree 2018/1, Dönmez is married with three children.
